Acosta Danza, under the general direction of Carlos Acosta, has been nominated in the “Outstanding Achievement in Dance” category at the UK Laurence Olivier Awards, the most prestigious recognition for the performing arts in that European country.
The Cuban company has been chosen for the choreography De punta a cabo, a recreation of the original by Alexis Fernández (Maca), which is part of the “100% Cuban” show. The jury distinguished this piece for its presentation at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, on February 9, 10, 11 and 12, performances sponsored by the Dance Consortium
Along with Acosta Danza, the dancers from the Nederlands Dans Theater also performed at Sadler's Wells; choreographer Arielle Smith for her piece Jolly Folly for the English National Ballet's Reunion program at Sadler's Wells; and dancer Edward Watson for his performance in The Dante Project at the Royal Opera House.
The Laurence Olivier Awards are organized by the London Theater Society, are presented annually and their categories include plays, dance, opera and musical performances. The jury is made up of members of the public and experts chosen for their knowledge and professional experience. The winners of this edition will be announced on April 10, at a ceremony at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
