Born in 1975 in Madrid, he trained with Carmen Roche completing his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Dance in Madrid and at the National Ballet School of Cuba. Among the awards of his career as a dancer are the Prix de Lausanne and the Gold Medal of the international competition in Luxembourg. Goyo Montero was Principal Dancer at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as a Soloist at the Leipzig Opera, the Wiesbaden State Theater and the Real Ballet de Flandes, being also invited to the National Ballet of Mexico, the Perth City Ballet and the Ballet of Europe, among others. As a choreographer he has created for companies such as the Royal Ballet London, Les Ballets de Montecarlo, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Ballet Nacional Sodre, Ballet Oper Perm / Diana Vishneva Context Festival, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opera de Kiel, Ankara and Izmir State Ballet, Modern Dance Turkey, the Gregor Seyffert Company, the Carmen Roche Ballet, the Cuban National Ballet, the Valencian Generalitat Theater Ballet, Maggio Danza Fiorentino. Goyo Montero is, since the 2008-2009 season, director and Principal Choreographer at the Nuremberg State Theater Ballet -Staatstheater Nurnberg Ballett (Germany). For his company he has created 22 creations. A long relationship joins him to the prestigious Prix de Lausanne competition. In 2012 and 2017 he was a Member of the Jury and his choreographies have been part of the contemporary repertoire of this competition since 2013.
In 2018 he created, together with 50 students from the schools associated with the contest, his choreography Pulse for the 1st Choreographic Project of the Prix de Lausanne. Among his awards as a choreographer we could mention the “Villa de Madrid Prize”, the First Prize of the “Ibero-American Competition of Choreography” (2006), the “Villanueva Award” from the UNEAC (Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba) and the “Madrid Theater Award”, all in 2006. In 2009 he obtained the “Cultural Award from the Chamber of Commerce and Central Franconia Industry”, in 2011 he was awarded the “National Dance Prize” by the Ministry of Culture of Spain and in 2014 he received the Bavarian Cultural Prize. In 2018, Goyo Montero and his company the Nuremberg State Ballet received the German National Dance Award for their extraordinary achievements. Since 2019 he has been a resident choreographer at Acosta Danza.
