ALEJANDRO SILVA
Born in Havana, Silva started his training at the School of Ballet “Alejo Carpentier” and then, in 2004 at the National School of Ballet. He graduated Summa Cumme Laude as a dancer and ballet teacher and began to work at the Ballet Nacional of Cuba directed by Alicia Alonso. With this company he traveled to America, Europe and Asia. In 2015 he became Principal Dancer. As a soloist he has performed in Giselle, Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, La fille mal gardée, Don Quixote and other ballets of Cuban coreographers like Electra Garrigó (by Gustavo Herrera), Dido Abandonada y Preciosa y el aire (Precious and the air) by Alicia Alonso; Cinderella by Pedro Consuegra, Un concierto en blanco y negro (Concert in black and White) by José Parés and Después del diluvio (After the rain) by Alberto Méndez. Silva was one of the soloist in the ballet Percusión para seis hombres (Percussion for six men) by Vicente Nebrada, and in the duet NousSommes, of Jimmy Gamonet. He has worked with other talented coreographers like Peter Quanz (Luminous), Annabelle Lopez Ochoa (Celeste) and Víctor Ullate (Samsara). Along with his dancing career, Silva has participated in many audiovisual projects. In 2012 his name was written in the Book of Honor of the Great Theater of Havana for his interpretation of the faun in the Afternoon of the Faun by Vaslav Nijinsky. In 2015 he became part of Acosta Danza. He has performed in Carmen (As the protagonist role Don José), Don Quixote (scenes) and Tocororo Suite, by Carlos Acosta; Babbel 2.0, by María Rovira, and Derrumbe, by Miguel Altunaga; Satori, by Raúl Reinoso; Mundo interpretado, by Juliano Nunes; Rooster, by Christopher Bruce; Faun, by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui; Portal, by Juanjo Arqués; End of Time, by Ben Stevenson; Belles Lettres, by Justin Peck; Paysage, soudain, la nuit, by Pontus Lidberg; Alrededor no hay nada, Imponderable and Llamada, by Goyo Montero; Performance, by Micaela Taylor; Twelve by Jorge Crecis; El cruce sobre el Niágara and Cor, by Marianela Boán and Avium, de Ely Regina Hernández. Silva was also part of the show “A Classical Farawell” by Carlos Acosta, in which he danced the pas de deux The Sylphide by August Bournonville; A Buenos Aires, by Gustavo Mollajolli, and the ballet Majísimo, by Jorge García. Whith this show he travelled to the United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Hong Kong. As a member of Acosta Danza, he participated in the film Yuli, a film about the life of Carlos Acosta, directed by the Catalan Icíar Bollaín. Alejandro Silva is studying a Bachelor of Arts in Dance at the University of the Arts of Cuba (ISA).
